A Reflection: The Period Surrounding And Encompassing The Beat Generation

The Beat Generation comes in the post-WWII era. This era was one marked by tension with the Soviet Union, the fight for racial equality (think MLK). and perhaps the birth of the suburban family in America (stay at home moms, creation of television et.)

Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation encompass a much different trend in America. I think of youth yearning for exploration, open to drugs and sexuality, love of jazz, and not being afraid to live broke if it means soaking in all of life’s experiences.
