Reflective Tag for Rhetoric in Christian Europe

This chapter was very interesting to me for several reasons. First and foremost, it introduced me to the fact that rhetoric has played a major role in the shaping of history. For instance, we see that the Church (with the help of St. Augustine) used rhetoric to defend their faith and to promote the interests of the Christian faith. Through these means, the Church spread the word of the bible across the known world, and therefore rhetoric helped shape one of the most influential religions humanity has ever known. Additionally, I have learned of the significance certain modes of rhetoric that we take advantage of today, such as letter writing, were imperative to the medieval world. This is definitely going to make me compose my next email more carefully as such elements as structure can change the persuasiveness of the content. From here, I am very interested in finding out the ways in which rhetoric evolves as it changes hands from one form of government to the next across history.
