Reflective Tag

 

In my analytical research on Jack Kerouac and the Beat Generation, I looked into the lifestyles that “beatniks” idealized and what came of the movement. This study has given me new perspectives into American life and literature. Before this analytical research paper, I understood the ideas of Kerouac strictly through his literature such as On The Road. This project has given me the ability to put this movement into context across American history. It shows me how the beat generation connected to themes of homosexuality and later inspired further movements such as the counterculture of the Hippie Generation. Now that I have a better understanding of American Literature, I have a better understanding of the themes and attitudes of that are attributed to different generations in American history. For instance, I now see the Hippie Generation (which had clear influences from the Beat Generation) and understand where the themes of naturalism and counterculture originate. I have found this project to be one of the most enriching learning experiences I have taken from the class thus far.
