Reflective Paragraph

Through the research and writing process, I learned many interesting things about early modern England. The first is the sheer complexity of many of the issues that they faced. When writing the short assignments, I thought it would be difficult to write over 1800 words on a similar topic, but after beginning my research essay, I found it more difficult not to write even more. Another is how well Shakespeare incorporated many of these themes into his plays. Every character brings a different aspect of these traits to the table, and many of them serve as foils, in order to highlight characteristics of others even more. One aspect I am interested in researching even more is how the audiences of the time picked up on these undertones. After seeing a play in person, I can imagine how some most likely attended simply for entertainment. However, by paying attention to not only the spoken lines but the actions and mannerisms of each character, another whole story is apparent.

  1. Good ideas about exploring the audience’s response–and definitely something to consider as you create your persona’s response to a play.
