Jarvis Chandler and I led a teach in on 11/17/22. We used  a scene from Macbeth by Shakespeare and “The Masque of the Red Death” by Edgar Allan Poe to teach our lesson to the 12th graders in Ms. Leadbetter’s class. Jarvis went through the slides during the lesson, and I participated in handing out the reading, and helping to deliver the readings in class. The students drew comparisons between the two in which we put on the board and got interesting thoughts and ideas from the students as to how the stories were different as well. The meaningful discussion on the story was worthwhile as I felt getting through the lesson was a lengthy process in getting through the reading but was rewarding when we were finished. The students being able to fall along with the print reading was good for our teach in as there were no other distractions by Ms. Leadbetter and her not wanting the students to use their chrome books. At the end of the class, we got pretty positive ratings on our teach in as well as how I thought the engagement of the students was helpful in getting through the lesson. Thinking the Boss and Larmer reading that was incorporated in class when we were doing our teach in is that “Context. The issue or challenge isn’t fake or simulated; students readily make connections to the world beyond the classroom” (Boss and Larmer 47). Being put in that position where we had to teach on the spot made me feel less nervous and rather calm in being able to help deliver our lesson in an effective manner.
