SPSS Regressions 4/16/21

Having just submitted the problems for Chapter 8 In SPSS I had little problems aside really from interpreting the actual regression sets as a whole. The end questions on both problem 2 and 4 I did not get.

Moving towards the project, I am more than a little confused on what exactly the theme of the project should be and how I can effectively analyze and cite all those sources in such a short amount of space. I hope we talk more about it next week in class!

Chapter 8 SPSS, First week of April

After having read Chapter 8 I feel as if I partially understand regression and Correlation. I would like to have access to the quiz questions so that I cold get the assignment done and over with! Additionally, I am a little confused on the research project. Still trying to come to terms with how to plan and execute the project under the given guidelines. effectively covering 10 sources in 600 words will certainly be a challenge.

SPSS Exercise 7

After having completed Chapter 7 in the P&E textbook, I feel more confident in my understanding of Chi Square tests and analyzing the credibility of hypothesis testing. For some reason, I did not get the correct percentages on question one, I believe I weighted it wrong which to me is perplexing. Regardless I found the exercise useful and I believe I was made better for doing such!

SPSS Quiz 2

After having taken the second SPSS Quiz, I feel as if I am understanding the SPSS program well, but many of the more overarching mathematical concepts find me at a loss. I think in the future I will focus more on the book itself than in the SPSS worksheets as I hope that is the direction the next quiz will head. Regardless I Still improved over the previous quiz which has me slightly optimistic.

Halfway through SPSS

“Now that you have made it through the halfway point in your SPSS work, are you feeling more confident in your ability to manage these assignments? Look back to where you started in January. Is there anything that has surprised you?”

I certainly feel much more confident in the program. At first I was immensely frustrated. I didn’t understand why I was getting problems wrong and was at wits end! Recently I have really slowed down and have taken the approach of doing all of the given problems in the book before even opening any  of the online canvas questions. I have felt far less rushed and have found better results. I am happy with the program and feel like I can really navigate it on my own. For example, after conducting a Independent T samples Test on problem 3-A I had miscoded the grouping variable. Instead of scratching my head, I instantly realized there were probably more codes than 1 and 2 for religious affiliations, and bopped over to the dataset to find the right ones. Just a few weeks ago I would have been totally derailed and confused by this. This familiarity has surprised me!

Thoughts on SPSS after first use.

Having worked in SPSS a bit, what do you think of it now? What sorts of uses might you have for something like SPSS.

SPSS is really interesting to use. My roommate made fun of me as I looked through the different and more provocative data value names. I overlooked this upon my first use of the program and it was a good 15 minutes of entertainment for some overtired cadets. Aside from this, it was a lot easier to use than expected. The assignment was self-explanatory and I hope the program progresses in the same way.

What I think of SPSS?

I think the program looks complicated. It reminds me of excel and hopefully it will function in a similar way. After having taken Math that matters from both semesters of my fourth class year, I hope this functions the same way. I will likely play around with it this weekend and watch some videos on what its all about.

IS-301 Concerns

My biggest hesitation in IS-301 is simply my knowledge of statistics. I took Statistics in my senior year of high school and I scrapped by, by the skin of my teeth. I do look forward to understanding the creation of data sets, and familiarize myself with the new computer software, I think it will compliment math that matters well. I am fearful for the potential manual aspects and any physical math I will need to do. Thematic and general conceptual understanding I will be fine with, but I personally have a lot of trouble with specific and procedural information.
