When referring to natural talent, Isocrates mentions that the ability to present speeches or any other kind of activity is because of nature. I believe that natural talent was an important consideration during this time period because if you were not born with the ability to speak before large groups of people and use rhetoric, it would be difficult to teach that to another person, it would also be very expensive to pay for classes in this area as well. Some people, no matter how much they are instructed to do something does not make them good at public speaking. They believed that many people were born with those talents and could further expand upon them with further instruction. In today’s rhetoric and context, one could say that politicians have a natural talent. You don’t normally see shy or introverted people becoming politicians. These people are born or surrounded by an environment which allows them to express themselves freely when referring to speech. They can later expand upon their natural talent in school in order to get themselves where they would like to be in the world of politics.
