Leadership to me is still someone who isn’t scared to be a follower. Originally I said that I want to be a leader because of certain leadership I received in the past and the inspiration it’s given me, but now I can use the terms we learned this year. I want to be a leader because of the authentic leadership that has been given to me. To be an authentic leader, your followers can see how you try to emphasize your growth and development which allows them to consider you trustworthy. This is because the purpose of a leader isn’t to have the style of “do as I say, not as I do” style of approach. The purpose of leadership is to see how the way in which you lead correlates to how hard your followers work, and the relationship between your followers’ work ethic and your authenticity.
I want to be known as an authentic leader who cares for their followers and takes time out of their day to what whatever necessary to help, because like mentioned before, if you have that authentic leadership, you will have a positive correlation in trust and creativity. Ideal leadership is what would make you an ideal leader. An ideal leader is somebody who has integrity to do the right thing even when nobody is watching, so if you tell your follower not to do something because it’s wrong, than you should not go ahead and do that same thing. To be an ideal leader you should also have a high sense of emotional intelligence which the ability to understand and manage the different emotions you come across because if you don’t, then you will come across as a leader who does not care about their followers.
To be an ethical leader it is based on what you do and who you are. It’s all about your decision-making when it comes to ethical issues being involved and how you respond in a situation which is given by your moral thoughts. What I fear most as a leader is if my followers start to take advantage of my kindness or authenticity, but the way I deal with that fear is by being stern, when need be, and open when they need to talk. I believe that by me having a good professional relationship with my followers, I will be able to prevent this from happening. At the end of the day, my followers don’t work for me, I believe that I work for them because they are what makes the gears turn.
