In this post I am discussing the topic regarding Chinese religion was was presented in a talk by a professor from China during Dean’s time. He discussed how much of the religion in China is centered on nature and takes on a more contemplative approach and respect for the world around. Western religions, such as Christianity are not as popular among Chinese people or as deeply rooted as these nature based religions. Another part of this mature based religion is superstition based largely on bringing an individual good fortune. For example, toads were said to be the bringers of wealth and long life. This identification outlines the pattern of identification that this nature based religion set forth. The professor went through a multitude of different aspects of nature from animals, like the fox to elements of nature like thunder and their significance to the Chinese who practiced this religion. I was surprised that this religion had so many followers and until this professors presentation I was not very familiar with its different tenants and elements.
