Prompt 10

Prompt 10

For my source I used Wikipedia and I found that it doesn’t really go into much depth at all regarding critical analysis of the film. It goes into all the basics of telling the plot from start to finish and identifying what seems to be the main point of the movie which is to depict civilized people being able to handle a uncivilized situation. The terms stereotypical of that Appalachians are stereotyped is not really mentioned. A brief section in reception offers a quote of negative analysis regarding the movie and the main point behind it. He talks about how it addresses civilized people’s ability to handle primitive situations but there was no need for some of the more extreme scenes like the rape. Referring to the people that the main characters encountered as primitive is the closest thing I saw to stereotyping and addressing stereotypical parts of the movie. I believe that Wikipedia does not go into depth on this topic because it is not really a sight that is designed to go into depth on one particular topic. It’s more for giving and overview. The two most memorable scenes seem to be the banjo duel early in the movie between one of the main characters and a young by they meet in one of the small Appalachian towns. The other is a more vulgar scene where one of the four main characters is raped by an Appalachian resident. These are two very powerful scenes that seem to set a mood and promote the primitive view with which the author regards the people of Appalachia.
