10/3 Homework

Plato doesn’t seem to reconcile with Sophists at all, which is not a bit surprising. Especially after reading that he believed that rhetoric “stirred the beast and lead to chaos and moral disorder” as well as “provoking civil war ” and leading to “the execution of Socrates.” (pg 111 Intro to Plato) He seems to have a sort of emotional beef with them which affects and individual’s ability to reason and see things from the other side.

With all that aside, what I find most interesting is his logic. Like we discussed in class, Plato doesn’t like the sophists because they aren’t interested in truth, HOWEVER, it also states on page 111 that “He never embraced scientism…” Which, at least in my definition of science, is very confusing due to the fact that all science is backed up by is truth through experimentation and evidence. (Excuse my tangent)
