303WX Prompt 7

I think that the main thing that strikes people in a negative way about The Kentucky Cycle is the picture it paints about the majority of the people who live in Appalachia.  The author did present a small scope to what actually goes on in that region and culture.  It gave the perception that all people in that area gave off this negative seclusion and wanted to be left alone to the horrible things they do in the hills.  Which in fact is completely false and and skewed perception of the presentation of the author.  I could see the Appalachian scholars taking huge offense to the play because its basically slandering their home culture and the people that go along with it.  I do agree with the scholars because I would have taken the same offense if somebody who did a very poor job of researching their project before publishing it and showing the world.  Not only that, but the contents of such playing being completely exaggerated to the point where he is forming public opinion about people in our very own country.  I think it does matter whether or not the author had intentions of “helping” the region.  If he was trying to bring positive light and open the region of Appalachia to the world, The Kentucky Cycle does absolutely none of that.
