Steinberg’s article begins by outlining several cultural issues in the genre form of the book of Genesis from the Bible. Why do you think the author chose this form? How does this rhetorical choice work in terms of Steinberg’s argument?

The writer uses the rhetorical tool of putting his words describing the creation of the idea of the Barbie doll in the form of Genesis the book from the Bible in order to start the article off by interesting the reader with line patterns recognizable or familiar to most people.  Early upon reading into this passage do you feel that the target audience is that of millennials who grew up in first world countries surrounded by these dolls for most of their childhood.  These first few lines sparked many memories of cousins and friends that were girls who played with Barbie dolls.  Also, the author used a religious scripture to further humanize the doll.  This is a good way to lead into the rants about all the different dolls and varieties of friends and outfits that the Barbie doll came in as the years progressed.  The author also splices in some comments about how the doll could have affect of kids growing up with these toys and how the creator of Barbie tries to tie the character Barbie into famous historical time periods or events to even further push the plastic character into reality.  This theme and tone the author uses continues throughout the paragraphs as he digs deeper and deeper into the differences and similarities that the dolls share throughout history.
