C2- Arjuna is hesitant to battle his family members. Krishna tells him not to worry about it b/c no one really dies anyway; nothing physical can damage the Self. Tells him that if he doesn’t fight he’ll be considered a coward and that he essentially needs to become stoic
C3 – Arjuna wonders why he should even bother fighting in the first place. Krishna tells him to act selflessly bc he’s the leader and people need to follow his example. It goes body to senses to mind to intellect to Atman
C5 – Krishna says the path of action is better than the path of renunciation and to not be elated by good fortune nor depressed by bad i.e. have a balanced life w/out moving yourself from the center (I think) “Both performance renunciation of action and the selfless performance of action lead to the supreme goal. But the path of action is better than renunciation”
C6 – Krishna tells Arjuna how to mediate (this relates to the center). When meditation is mastered the mind is like a candle in a windless place… in the depths of meditation the mind is revealed. Krishna says that if you don’t have the self control necessary to master yoga, he’ll reincarnate you into a more pure and prosperous family, possibly where yoga is practiced. Basically, if there is a will there is a way.
C7 – Krishna if you worship me, you’ll go to me; worshipping me is the highest
C10 – Krishna is the creator and has a ton of awesome powers. He is the one god; he then describes how he manifests himself in just about everything
C11 – Krishna shows Arjuna his spiritual, true form upon his request
C12 – Krishna: the best yoga-ers are fully devoted to me. Mechanical practice of yoga leads to knowledge to meditation to surrender of attachment to results
C13 – the Body is like a field; everything exists b/c and through the union of the field and its Knower. The Self lights up the field and the knower, thus, being able to distinguish between the two is the supreme goal
C14 – 3 gurus of prakriti: Sattva – pure, luminous, ascending; Raja – passion from selfish desires, suffering, greed, neutral; Tamas – descending, confusing, infatuation, ignorance. But by serving Krihna you go beyond the gurus; you become content and unmoved by anything; ‘alike in honor and dishonor, friend and foe’ etc.
C16 – there are two paths: the divine and the demonic. The demonic is no sense of uprightness, purity nor truth. The basis of life is sex and gratification of lust is the highest it can offer. The path is comprised of hypocritical, material men. The three gates of darkness is lust, greed, and anger
