Shading Correction/Stitching on the Nikon DS-L3 (4x objective)

Step 1: You want to fix the shading correction before beginning. Acquire > Shading Correction > Capture Correction Image

Step 2: Select Multiplicative in the Correction tab

Step 3: Remove the slide so that there is a white background on the live feed.

Step 4: Click next

Step 5: Click Finish

Step 6: Put the slide onto the stage and locate your slide so that it is in the center of the computer screen.

Step 7: Adjust the Right Focusing Knob so that the bottom black bar on the computer screen is at the high possible value (the black bar next to the FPS value). This indicates that your image in now fully focused.

Step 8: Using the direction knobs, place you slide so that it is at the top left hand corner of your image border as such:

Step 9: Go to Acquire > Grab Large Image > Select “OK” > Select “Transparent” > Click “Grab”.

Step 10: Transparent ghost image appear on the left side of the screen. Align ghost image over actual image (does not have to be perfectly aligned) using knobs on the right side of the Nikon Camera. Bottom knob moves ghost image Right, Left. Top knob moves ghost image Up, Down.

Step 11: Once ghost image is aligned and overlapping the actual image, Select “Grab”.

Step 12: Repeat steps 10-12 until you have acquired all possible images of the top half of your slide object.

Step 13: Select “Meander” when you are ready to acquire bottom half of your image.

Step 14: Repeat steps 10 and 11 until you have a complete image of your slide object.

Step 15: Select “Finish”

Step 16: You have now acquired your Large Image with the Shading Correction applied.
