Readings Week 1

Plans for discussion:

UPDATE: ANNIKA, I AM MAKING A VOCABULARIES AND CATEGORIES PAGE FOR YOU SO WE CAN CHANGE ADD AS WE BRAINSTORM.I will start with your “circles of meaning” you gave me today and add comments and then you can adapt change we talk. Sound Good?

I think it would be fruitful to dedicate at least 1 two-hour session per week to discussing readings (1 I will choose, 1 of your choice) to apply to the experience of the Girls Leadership Camp.

For each reading, I would like you to prepare notes and “discussion questions” and post them ahead of our meeting

We could say Thursdays for these meetings?

I will create an open folder of articles from which to choose each week. I think it will be important to return to a social-semiotic understanding of communication, involving multi-modal forms, not only for camp, but for understanding the worlds and contexts in which girls are being, identifying and imagining themselves.

WEEK 1 READINGS:

Ann Egan-Robertson on Language, Culture and Power: EganRobertson Culture PowerLit.pdf

Gunther Kress on Sign-Making and Literacy (need to find clean copy) and Interview
