I think these blog posts are an excellent way to really exploit stream of consciousness in a learning environment. We are able to get our thoughts across about the course and anything going on related to it more so than if we had just used the course eval, which by the way, there is no real incentive to complete.

Blog 13

I think it might be interesting to see this class broken up into two distinct sections. Something like an IS301 and an IS302, the first section would be much like the first half of this class, methods and data analysis through SPSS. The second half of the class could be a semester long project, similar to a capstone but without the same weight associated with it. It might allow cadets greater immersion into research.

Blog 12

In terms of my group, I have had the pleasure of working with a good one. Mr. Fajardo and Mr. Sutton handled much of the literary analysis and the graph and chart making while Mr. Andre-Jansz and I handled the intro, hypothesis, methods, and conclusion portions. We all managed to pull our fair share of weight and avoided the old stereotype of group projects.

I think your availability was one of the best parts about this class, hindsight is 2020 and I realized how much this class is what you make of it. I didn’t realize this, and I paid for it. This class really allows you the freedom to learn at your own pace and was the first class of its kind that I have experienced.

I have to say that I really appreciate the fact that this class didn’t have a midterm or a final exam. Both of those times are really crowded and cluttered and It definitely helped not having to study for this class on top of all of the others. I think the final project is the way to do it since the group can split the work up over several days and not have to worry about it all at once.

I think that most of the SPSS homework’s were fairly easy, especially since you had at least two chances to discern the correct answers. There were however, one or two of the homework’s that really took a sizeable chunk of my time. They basically took me from 2000-2300.

Blog Post 8

I didn’t get a chance to complete the course eval, so this blog will be a stand in for that. This class has been interesting to say the least. I have not fully committed myself to learning the concepts and I think that came back to bite me in the ass, I definitely could have had an A, but I failed to fully understand the readings. I do think that the work we did in the class was beneficial and I learned quite a bit about how to use and track data analysis.

Blog Post 7

While analyzing our data we came to the surprising conclusion that there is not a correlation between the amount of extracurriculars cadets take part in. I had expected their stress levels to be lower with a something to take their minds off of the pains of being a cadet at VMI. This was not the case, our results were inconclusive.

Blog Post 6

While we worked on this final project, we ran into a lot of problems concerning the collection of our data. We realized that absolutely nobody wants to fill out surveys. When we went back to collect them, we found out that a lot of people had either lost them or not done them yet, to combat this we handed out new surveys and had them complete them on the spot.
