My name is Jared Silva. I am currently a third class cadet (sophomore) at the
Virginia Military Institute. I originally came from Charles Town, West Virginia, where I have been living for the past 15-16 years.

I grew up playing baseball with aspirations to be a professional baseball player. Along that journey was another goal of playing baseball at the NCAA Division 1 level. That is where I stand now. I was recruited by VMI during my senior year of high school. I chose this school, mainly because of baseball, but also because of the great degree and reputation it upholds in society, and because of the alumni networking beyond graduation.

Outside of the baseball lines, and now on the academic side, I’ve always been interested in business. I chose to major in Economics and Business, a degree in which VMI holds the highest accreditation a business program can receive. On top of that, I have chosen to concentrate in marketing, a field in the business industry that I am very interested in.

Baseball and business come together for me. Baseball is a business, therefore I figured it would be a good idea to study a field that could help me be a successful [potential] professional athlete. Whenever my baseball career is up, my plans are to get into the business side of the game. I would like to work on a marketing team for Major League Baseball (MLB) or an MLB organization/franchise, or even be an agent for a player.
