The academic and personal relate because dependent on how you do in your academics, directly effect how you feel on a personal level. One example would be if you did good on a test, you would feel good and accomplished. Schoolwork does not actually seem personal, it is work that needs to get done on an academic level and does not generally need a personal or emotional touch to it. I try to keep my personal out of my schoolwork or else it will interfere with getting the work done and on time. IF you bring them together, then if you are in a bad mood, you will probably be aggressively doing the work or if you feel good, you will cheerfully be doing the work.

The two articles are basically the exact same thing except for the fact that Strasser goes into more detail on how personal experiences can make learning harder and not as easy for people.
