Hi! My name is Rebecca Serrano and I am born and raised in Miami Florida. I am half American and half Puerto Rican. I am so happy I was able to grow up in a city with so many diverse cultures, I was able to treat each and every one of the with respect, and never knew this hatred that seems to still be surrounding the world. I am 19, turning 20, and I love to play sports. In high school, I participated on both the swim and water polo teams, making it to the State Championships for both. I don’t remember a time when I was ever not an athlete, and I wouldn’t have it any other way, because it got me where I am today.
Today, I am a sophomore at The Virginia Military Institute. Here I play Division 1 Water Polo and Swim. I just recently broke the 100 meter breastroke varsity record. I cannot be prouder to attend such a prestigious school and play the sports I love, it is truly an honor.
After college I hope to serve my country in the United States Coast Guard. Having grown up in Miami, I am used to seeing the Coast Guard up and about around me. I have seen what they do, and of course the movie The Guardian with Kevin Costner, the inspiration for many.
