The West Facade
The west facade is one of the most detailed parts of the entire cathedral. The cathedral was begun in around 1200. The facade was build around 1300. The facade was the last thing built on the cathedral. The facade has two towers which stand at 267 feet. They were originally designed to stand at 394 feet but did not make it that high. The south tower contains two bells, one which is called Charlotte and weighs about 11 tons. There are three portals on the bottom. The center portal is dedicated to the Virgin Mary. The north portal depicts the crucifixion and the south portal has an image of the Christ at the Last Judgment.
Nave
The nave is three stories high which is typical of gothic architecture. The walls are all one color allowing the view to see the hight and magnitude of the nave. The ceiling has ribbed arches the create a web like shape which is used for support and aesthetics. The apse that can be seen in the back has two circular stained glass windows. The reason for stained glass is to make the light more tangible. When you walk through the nave, the colored light fall on you and it feels like the light of god is on you.
