2. Have you ever had literacy sponsors who withed or tried to with withhold certain kinds of literacies from you? For example, did your school ban certain books? Have sponsors forced certain kinds of literacies on you or held up some literacies better than others? Were you able to find alternative sponsors for different kinds of literacy?
Middle school and high school have both encouraged the readings of banned books to expose us to new material and writing skills. Middle school was all encompassing; however, high school did restrict certain conservative viewpoints, and thus tried to have students transcend conservative viewpoints such as religious education and fiscally conservative policies. This constitutes a literacy sponsor who withheld some information, and even placed liberal literacy sources over conservative literacy sources. One example is that the curriculum “forced” students to watch/read LGBTQ movies and literature (Angels in America). Also focused on banned books that were liberal, but not those that were conservative.
