Activity 1: Critique student’s execution of paraphrasing
Although the student makes an effort in paraphrasing the article, it falls short because the words used too closely resemble the original words of the document. Furthermore, the sentence structures are also identical, making this case of paraphrasing a case of plagiarism. In this instance, it would just be best to quote the original article with citations, rather than attempting to paraphrase.
Activity 2: Paraphrase a portion of the article
RCP tallies of five states were discounted; however, votes were recorded from two smaller caucuses in Northern Marinas and American Samoa, which both resulted in a Clinton victory (Kessler). Sanders, on the other hand, beat Clinton by a large margin of votes in a primary held by Democrats Abroad (Kessler).
Activity 3: Organize words into Categories
Positive: acknowledges, advises, agrees, allows, concurs, confirms.
Neutral: acknowledges, answers, asserts, believes, claims, concludes, confirms, declares, describes, discusses, emphasizes, expresses, interprets, lists, objects, observes, offers, remarks, replies, reports, responds, reveals, says, states, suggests, thinks, writes.
Negative: charges, criticizes, disagrees, disputes, opposes.
