Overview of “Lyrical Ballads, with a few other Poems”

December 15th, 2014

There are quite a few poems in this collection, put together by William Wordsworth. What joins them all together is that the focus on one aspect or influence of nature. In a strange way, the vast majority of the poems contained therein are relate-able to common feelings one might experience. In Wordsworth’s own words, “The principal object, then, which I proposed to myself in these Poems was to choose incidents and situations from common life, and to relate or describe them, throughout, as far as was possible, in a selection of language really used by men…” One comes away from this collection feeling, as a whole, with a greater respect for nature as a much larger force with greater power than attributed with at all times.
