What makes good annotations?
Good annotations begin with an engagement with the reading. Engaging in the reading allows for ideas to open up inside your mind. However, annotations do not just simply summarize the text. Summarizing is only surface level, annotations must go deeper into the reading. Also, good annotations make connections in the reading, showing how ideas in the beginning follow through the end. Good annotations can ask questions, sometimes during a reading, a reader may not understand what the writer is getting at or why he decided to put a certain sentence or stance in the text. Overall, a good annotation begins with engagement and ends with a deeper meaning.
