suasoria – Suasoria is complimentary to controversia and they have to deal with exercises in the composition and delivery of speeches and oral rhetoric.

What cultural and material conditions help to explain the rise of writing in rhetoric during the middle ages? To what extent does orality influence the written tradition during the middle ages?

Material conditions – roads created ease of distributing news and laws throughout the nation and made writing as practical to spread ideas as speaking, the printing press allowed mass printing which mean that in order to write people no longer had to write each page by hand which took too much time the effectiveness allowed for much greater efficiency, paper and ink that were easily accessible outside of places of education was new they

Cultural conditions – the desire for eloquence and beautification led to increase writing to preserve the work, more government and law; if things were not written down they may be forgotten and in order to enforce and make sure laws were common knowledge they must be written and then read the vernacular aloud to those that were not able to read Latin, all of church was well educated and literate they were able to write sermons a distribute messages of god on paper and let people memorize/re read messages and sermons
