In Portfolio #1, an argumentative analytic rhetorical analysis on Kathryn Tyler’s “The Tethered Generation”, I developed and presented multiple skills, yet realized I have many skills that I need to further develop in my writing. The summary of the essay through critical thinking and reflection was able to present the general argument and topic to my audience in my analysis. In spite of being able to summarize the text, I feel the amount of references used in my paper failed to present enough of Tyler’s side of the argument that would have helped in my own counter-argument. This, along with more development in my ability to connect to an ignorant audience, would have greatly increased the flow and overall message of my analysis. The reflections I presented on the main points of Tyler’s argument were topic focused yet by adding more personal ideas and opinions on the argument could have given my paper a stronger voice and enabled me to connect better with my audience. Creativity would have helped in the transition and flow of the analysis of Tyler’s multiple topics and the interpretation in my paper. The conclusion was effective and I was able to add some personal reflections on Tyler’s paper and my feelings on whether it would be useful in an educational research. My Portfolio #1 paper was topic focused and analytical, yet by working on developing skills such as transition and creativity I would be able to create a much more fluid and audience focused rhetorical paper.
