Prompt 2: Hillbillies and Rednecks

After research, rednecks and hillbillies are very much believed to have bloomed from the Appalachian region.  Often times these two words are associated with lower class white people who are not very educated and are known to do manual labor. One site calls hillbillies “unsophisticated country people, associated with the regions of the Appalachian” while another refers to hillbilly as “old fashioned country music”.  This can be negative because it sets a stereo type that all the people from this region are illiterate as well as uneducated before even meeting them.  A redneck is described as a lower class white laborer who burns their neck to the point of redness while working out in the sun.  They are also associated with confederate flags and a strong southern mentality.  Being that the south had more racial tension during the civil war era, rednecks are strongly associated with racism. That can go both ways because there are those that are actually racist then there are those who simply take pride in living in the South.  The idea that rednecks work out in the sun is a valid point, but all of them being lower class people may not be completely true.  The definitions formulated for these words go along handily with how people view them.  It is positive in that it gives some insight as to what these people are like.  On the contrary it is negative because they are judged before having the chance to meet these people.
