I wrote this essay for Public Address in which I analyzed Eleanor Roosevelt’s infamous speech, “The Struggle for Human Rights,” which she presented to the United Nations. While writing this analysis I was required to research the cultural context of the 1948 situation between the Soviet Union and the democratic world. Furthermore, I proved that Roosevelt’s powerful rhetoric was a leading historical influence that would live on through time, conflict, and change. This assignment introduced me to the historical context surrounding her time but also enhanced my skills in accounting for these historical influences in any literary or rhetorical work. It may take research for me to be aware on specific cultural influences but after assignments, such as this, I am aware that they always exist.
