Who should you be as a teacher and who should your students be?

As a teacher Socrates is saying they give the tools to learn and to be smart, they don’t really put the heart of teaching and the extra touch to apply what the students are learning to the tools they are learning. Students have to have the natural ability and context to put the tools they are learning together and teach themselves different tools to have the complete thought and idea of knowing what they were just taught. Teachers need to not just teach the tools but to put the heart of teaching into it. Students need to have the natural ability in studying and applying the tools they learn to become knowledgeable in the subjects they are being taught. As Socrates was saying about the alphabet the student would only be able to answer the one question of “what is the alphabelt”, they would not be able to put the alphabet together to create words. This puts the pressure on the students to apply the knowledge of the alphabet into creating words for use. “I do think that the study of political discourse can help more than any other thing to stimulate and form such qualities of character.” (177)
