Of the short assignments so far, the most interesting topics to me involve Shakespeare’s representation and response to the cultural contexts of his time through his plays. Henry V and Much Ado About Nothing are interesting to me in terms of their respective portrayals of power and politics and gender politics.
As stated above, Henry V and Much Ado About Nothing are my plays that seem to most consider the cultural context I am interested in considering.
Hamlet, soliloquies offer increased perspective. Henry V, his speeches are heavily rhetorically and politically loaded.
As stated in the first question, the themes I am considering looking into throughout Shakespeare’s plays are cultural contexts including power and politics, gender politics, and also the marriage of religious and secular thought during this time.
