This essay allowed me to pursue an area of interest in light of the novel, Romanticism. Romanticism is my favorite period in literary studies, so this assignment was of great interest to me. This essay also challenged me to engage in a scholarly conversation with two authors. Through my research, I found that Shelley used Romantic imagination to bring to light the monstrosity of man and questions of gender roles of the time period. This essay brought me back to a question posed in my oral presentation: who is the true monster in the story? I argued that the true monster is Victor, and Shelley used this novel as a showcase to the dark side of humanity. Furthermore, I gained a entirely new perspective on the novel. I came across scholarly articles that viewed the novel through the lens of feminism. Altogether, this assignment was enlightening as a student to the novel.
