Gender and identity and stereotypes are still a huge thing in today’s world. Many transgenders have been persecuted attacked and verbally put down because of how they truly feel about themselves. In today’s world they are looked on as outcasts and even shunned in today’s world. Though as a society we are making improvements this still is a huge problem that needs to be addressed once and for all.

A man that fell victim to his choice of lifestyle is a man named Robert Eads who was a transgender American that was born in Toccoa, Georgia. He was in a documentary regarding his transgender lifestyle, that dealt him many consequences for his decision. He was diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and was rejected by the medical community, which led to his death. The film as featured other affects, such as his family treating him ill and not speaking to him. Yes, not having a family support your endeavors is heartbreaking, but having some sort of support system is the key component in finding solace in any situation at hand.

Life is hard if your family is not supporting your ideals. Not having family structure that supports you leads to many dark and narrow roads. Having family is the key to helping you cope with issues.

The southern comfort transgender conference SoCo for short is a gathering place for all peoples that have gone through the transgender spehere. This conference protects these individuals and allows them to feel loved by one another and welcoming place for them. This is a place that they are accepted. The way that the film portrays gender identity as people who act in a way different from their biological sex illustrates or how they should act. Robert is with a man named Lola whos identifies as a woman. They both have changed to the opposite of their original sexes. They both throughout the film exhibit discontent regarding their identity. Gender disorder makes them feel like there is something wrong with them. This makes people that are transgender feel that they are unacceptable in society.

There are many stereotypes that are associated with transgenders in society today. Many of the stereotypes today fall under different categories. Many people believe that these individuals are sick mentally and need help. Many people also say that these individuals are confused about who or what they really are. May also believe that these people will kill themselves .According to USA today, “41% of transgenders try to kill themselves at some point in their lives, compared with 4.6% of the general public”. People that are transgender re commonly attacked. And persecuted throughout the world. Though these problems are around they have slightly improved some of the years to movements like LGBT and other activist groups that support same sex opposite sex things.

The SoCo has shown a huge step in trying to correct some of the wrongs that are associated with these people. It shines a light on what life is really like for these individuals. And some of the issues they deal with day by day. SoCo is the perfect place to try and address these issues providing a place for people to be safe. These issues need to be addressed world wide it is truly a problem that we must correct.
