This clip is from Kenneth Branagh’s 1994 film rendition of Frankenstein.  The clip shows the creature taking vengeance on his creator by murdering the love of his life, Elizabeth. This Hollywood version of the novel dramatizes the murder by having the monster rip out her still beating heart. This highlights the severity of the creatures rage and his dedication to vengeance. This film is considered by many to be more closely related to the novel than many other film renditions, as displayed in the clip by the creatures intelligence and ability to speak — a feature commonly overlooked by many renditions. Its a testament to the modern audience and nature of film that the producers still took artistic licensure in many scenes such as this. In contrast to the conservative religious audience of the early 19th century, modern audiences may be desensitized to horror and gore, and require more extreme depictions. The highly technical scene is made possible by the films enormous budget, a testament to the preserving interest in Frankenstein, and its relevance in modern times.
