Photography

Another important job I have is photography. When I first started, I was given a small handheld camera and have been asked to shoot events such as breakout and “cadet life.” I have also gone into the field with professional photography Kelly Nye and shot track meets, areas around post, and the renovations at Mckethan Park. These photos get posted to the VMI instagram page, the Institute Report, Flickr, and Tumblr. Photos are uploaded onto the departments server and stored in highly organized folders. When a large shoot is complete, the file is “culled” and the best photos are moved into a smaller folder. At this point, photos are edited with Photoshop and from there can be used in the above mediums. When a professional in the office takes a large shoot of an event like breakout, Midwinter Formal, New Market, the Inauguration, or a sports game, I am often tasked with find a sample of photos which best represents the shoot.
