I’ll frustrate them! They shan’t rob me! they shan’t murder me by inches! I’ll fight for my Lord and Master!”-Pg.142

Key words: Lord and Master.

This is a reference to Dracula and Renfield is a disciple or apostle of Dracula. Dracula is viewed as an Antichrist through out much of the book. Being able to change the weather, control the seas, control animals, and symbolically feed his disciples, like how Jesus did with five loaves of bread and two fish in the New Testament. Also just how Jesus had apostles, Dracula has Renfield and now Lucy as apostles. The Latin and Greek root words, apostolus and apostolos mean to send out or send forth. Dracula, Lucy and Renfield are theoretically spreading a new way of life, like how the original 12 apostles did. For example, the children that are bit by Lucy, the so called “boofer lady”, may or may not become vampires. Only further reading can determine that.
