3.) Collecting ‘Control’ Data

After ensuring accurate simulated statistics, the next step of this project concerned the collection of  preliminary data for the positions that will be eventually changed with a replacement player. The positions examined in this study are quarterbacks, running backs, left tackles, linebackers, and cornerbacks. To start, data was collected for all 32 starting NFL quarterbacks and runningbacks, along with data for 10 left tackles, 10 linebackers, and 10 cornerbacks. The left tackles, linebackers, and cornerbacks were chosen in a way that represents a variety of individual player ability as well as the overall skill of their respective team. Since there is no way that to transfer statistical data electronically from Xbox to PC, all the data from these seasons were transferred entirely by hand. Each simulated season was an exact replica of the 2015 NFL season schedule so that the ensuing player statistics would be more precise. In total, ten (10) simulated seasons were performed and individual statistics were taken for 94 total players per simulated season.
