When I saw that there was an opportunity for me to do a paper on racial relations with Muslims in the time of Shakespeare, I knew that I had to do it. Since high school, I have found the idea of racial tension to be quite interesting. Add in the fact that I love history, and I knew that I had to do more research. I was surprised to find out the two sides of the argument in the debate on Moors in early Europe. I knew that several mathematicians had used Islamic ideas in their hypotheses, but I had no idea that it was to the extent that it was. I was also surprised to see that many people had no interest or liking for Moors, because I had assumed that any dissonance was quiet, and the good outweighed the bad, which was not always the case. Overall, this idea of racial tensions between two peoples is very interesting, and something that I want to take a look at deeper as I go on.

Yes, this is a good topic for further study, and I’m delighted that you found a subject that has been of longstanding interest. As you investigate the topic further, you’ll find out that the sense of “race” was just beginning to take hold. The Moors, as Bartels (author of the book I gave you) explains, are particularly interesting to study because of the many perspectives on them during this early modern period, when England was just beginning its global expansion.
