Portrait of a Writer Reflection
In the essay “Writer’s Block” I shared a writing experience I had in High School that was major contribution to my writing process; I was assigned a research paper on Dwight D. Eisenhower. In the past I have struggled with writing papers in English classes because I lacked the motivation to create great works of literature on topics I had no interest in. After have experienced writing my research paper I proved to myself that I was capable of exceptional work and I had figured out how to work through the adversity I faced as a writer.
Through the progression of the three drafts that had been written, I worked on writing skills such as topic development, identifying the audience, and reflecting critically on my writing experiences. The most important skill that was practiced in “Portrait of a Writer”, was reflection and revision. Thinking back to a past time where I experienced adversity in writing and worked through a process to overcome it “The lesson that resided in me from this experience was that to become a better writer, I would need to make myself as educated as possible on the topic I was writing about. The more I knew, the more passionate I began to feel towards a work”. I learned how to use revising in a more effective way to improve and develop my writing.
