Discourse Community Ethnography Reflection
In the ethnography “American Football Community Analysis”, I investigated the stereotype behind football players lacking the mental capacity to think critically, objectively and complexly. To conclude the analysis it was determined through evidence from first hand experience that football is evolving to a very complex game along with colleges demanding high academic standards from players; as a result players are expected to perform at an elite level in the classroom as well as on the field.
The skills that were focused on in this assignment were organization and content due to the complexity of the topic. Writing an ethnography presented a challenge to organize all ideas and topics that needed to be addressed, explored, and investigated. Overall, the objectives of the paper were met along with the organization and content were well developed with the use of personal experiences as examples to support the claim made that football players are indeed intelligent individuals. This concluding excerpt shows, “This new ideology will help prepare young men who play football to be better equipped for the world ahead whether they pursue an advanced degree in college, or go straight into the workforce. This goes to show, modern athletes are held accountable for their actions whether it be conduct or academically. Football players have the ability to breakdown complex issues they face and find the best possible solution in split second decisions”. Transitions between ideas and paragraphs will need to be worked on for coherency.
