HIV/Aids

HIV/AIDS originated in west Africa and is believed to originate from a type of chimpanzee in the mid 1900’s. it is considered an emerging infectious disease because, it considered very recent in terms of diseases and very prominent in today’s society. Some of the societal and cultural factors that enhanced the transmission of this disease throughout our modern-day culture was the rising presence of homosexual’s males which were initially blamed for the disease in the US. Also, its rapid spread in Africa was due to the large amount of unprotected sex. This later fueled the AIDS movement which forced governments to produce policies to fund and research treatments around the world, this didn’t happen easily, this took various protests and years of various movements to cause this. The world has changed and is continuing to as the battle against aids continues, we still need to find a cure and need to continue the research and pressure local legislatures around the world to continue to push for these policies. One major factor in the U.S. which has significantly inhibited the the spread of HIV/AIDs is the release of the “triple cocktail” which is a mixture of three drugs which has been shown in various studies to change the diseases from a “automatic death sentence to a chronic but manageable disease”. This is not a cure though although it makes the disease undetectable in the blood it could very well be hiding in various parts of the body such as a limph nodes and other parts.
