Teaching Writing Reading Response pp. 222-224

This chapter deals a lot with the weight on the teacher. I agree with this that the teacher has a lot of responsibility in the students success and competence in writing. This goes back to what the teacher demands from their students, as well as how they approach each student.

The chapter also says that teacher comments are a form of initial diagnostic or private response. Also, it is mentioned that “purpose governs how we express the message and how our audience is likely to respond” (p. 230). It is important a students as well to be able to read the teacher response, internalize it, and then apply it to our own work. Like all writing, it is a two way street of communication and cognition.
