I feel that she is making the argument that there is a contradiction of what women are and how they are viewed. When she mentions the comment about a deliberative war I think it may be a war between society versus the women perspective on their roles. She is clearly a more educated women that has noticed this problem in the Romance of the Rose. In the Book of the Rose she mentions what men and women are naturally as you explained was, “gender essentialism.” That is why I thought she redefined or re emphasized the roles of women and how they are in society in relation to men. This then translates into other aspects such as romance and society.
