Syphilis…how in the hell it goes from being one of the worlds worst killers to being….well…still bad…but treatable. I believe a majority of it has to do with the times and ages of medicine we live in today, and through studying and advancement of medicine. Though it is also necessary to look  within the disease itself, and the possibility of mutation, and the rebirth of new versions that can include drug resistance, and carriers/host within animals rather than humans.

Syphilis is such a killer because of it’s ability to change, and mutate, along with being first found back in the age when the fucking doctors cut hair as their primary job!  The World just didn’t know back then, about how things were spread and contamination, hygiene and sanitation within the Medical Profession.  Although we were naturally ignorant, the church and aristocrats/royalty also shunned differing ideologies within Medicine and held up or followed/preached religious Mythology and narrow-mindedness for the sake of religion. The people of course followed this, and thus caused a great deal of trouble that took until the 19th and 20th Centuries to fix.  That was human ignorance though that we were fighting. This was “easy Syphilis” The harder stuff has emerged in the second half of the twentieth, and beginning of the 21st Century. This is now the disease flipping us the bird saying it’s still going to kill us. The real war is now just beginning. This war will take sacrifice, loss, pain, and suffering. But if all goes well, the lives paid to get us to a world free of Syphilis will be marked as heroes. They will NOT have died in Vain.  For Frodo Indeed.
