For me the two passages that speak to me the most would most definitely be that of the Beginning where Dillon is talking about his father’s condition of being paralyzed and how it it happened, how really he is a bastard and how his life, while he plans to make the most of it could seem like a waste to others. He goes on then throughout the book working at proving himself and trying to be the man he thought his father was. Weather he succeeded for failed is up to the reader, or the fact he decided to commit suicide.
The Second passage is when Jackie is talking about being a Christian and all that that entails. While it could be argued that church really did not matter when it came to the country, it is up to the reader to ultimately decide, and really pay attention to this young women show us that this information has been soaked up by listening to her elders, and from there she is spitting it back like it is common knowledge. To me that is all the evidence i need to see that releigion meant more to these people than what we let on.
