Prompt 7-The Kentucky Cycle all
James McCaffery
Help Received: The Kentucky Cycle By Robert Schenkkan
James McCaffery
So this play, while unique in style, realism, and plot is refreshing, new, incredibly fascinating it still lacks a key adjective….yeah its something awful. The stereotyping alone i could write over two hundred words on. The preparation of hate, anger, death, dishonesty, savagery, abuse to me is something you don’t want top document or let be and continue. That’s something you want to kill off! Now yes you can claim that it was because of the environment these people were put in and a necessity to survive, but to me I find that a BS answer and a cop out. The fact that this simply becomes a cycle also gives it further no right to continue and personally if i could I would have wiped out the Rowens if I thought i could get away with it. Further, screw the land. With theist much blood and bodies in it, I’m starting to believe that its cursed. This author has ruined the idea of Kentucky for me, and further, I can feel the moans, and pains of the people of Appalachia starting from 1992 onward. I’m Sorry Robert, but this is just simply too much. The fact too that this isn’t one play but nine!? It is as though you are trying to compile evidence against these people. To me it is not only not right but simply saddening. When can the people of Appalachia get a break?
