Upon writing my essay I started by researching STEM topics that are currently relevant in today’s society. I considered several options such as environmental conservation and climate change before selecting the subject of my essay. Eventually, I located an article detailing the current development rate of coronavirus vaccinations.
Before beginning the essay, I made sure that the article had a traceable primary source in which the text was built off of. Other topics and articles that I considered were not as useful because I could not find a primary source within the reading. Therefore, I made sure to have an identifiable primary source that I could trace and compare in the rhetorical analysis.
Throughout the analysis, I utilized several articles and readings from Writing about Writing in order to develop a foundation for talking points in my essay. For example, the “Analyzing Arguments Rhetorically” excerpt helped me focus on the rhetorical elements of both of my texts. When developing my visual schematic, I used some of the points listed such as the rhetorical context regarding the author, genre, and writer’s purpose. Additionally, I made notes of the ethos and logos appeals that I could compare in the rhetorical analysis essay.
When it came time to write the essay, the visual schematic had a significant role in creating a comparison of the two sources. I frequently referenced the information within the schematic, which assisted me in creating a variety of discussions and comparisons in the analysis. Ultimately, creating a visual plan before writing the essay benefited me greatly. Before beginning my essay, I felt lost and unsure of what to discuss, but after using my schematic I made a lot of progress in writing my rhetorical analysis.
