Living Life Under the Truck Community- Critical Reflection
Throughout writing this essay I learned a lot more about my very own discourse community. I saw the community in a different light and why I am a part of the community. I never really thought about how much a part of the community I am. But now I realize that I contribute in many ways to the community. But not only do I contribute, but many people help me and have pushed me to be more a part of the community. Whether that be from encouraging me to come to meets, helping me build my truck, or help get my name out to bigger truck groups. I also learned more about the values of the community and what it means to be a part of the community. Everyone needs to be in some sort of community to keeps themselves sane. Whether that be video games, a sport, or trucks. A discourse community is what fills your free time. For example, when I’m not at a truck meet, show, or looking at my truck, I’m looking at trucks on social media or looking at new parts to order. After writing the essay it made me reflect about my younger self dreaming of someday building my very own truck and driving to truck shows and being in truck groups. And now thinking about how I lived that dream until I came to college. Also, it made me miss being active in the community while I’m away at college. But it also makes me look forward to getting home and getting my truck ready again for taking it to truck shows. Overall, this essay allowed me to look at my discourse community in a totally different light. This made me proud to be a part of the community I’m in and how much effort I put in to be a part of it.
