Homework:
Before reading the assigned reading:
I have never really looked into rhetoric before this class, and was never taught it before this class. So, I only have a guess as to what rhetoric may be and that would be the way people persuade people into agreeing with their argument. This definition is completely a guess since I have never talked about it to anyone before.
In-class:
After reading I have discover that rhetoric is not specifically one thing but a combination of many different ideas. Yes, rhetoric is seen in arguments and discussion, but that is not where it is always present. We use rhetoric much more than we believe. After searching online for what the definition of rhetoric is I found that rhetoric is defined as, “the art of effective or persuasive speaking or writing, especially the use of figures of speech and other compositional techniques” (found on google right when you searched the word). After the reading, I now have a more distinguished understanding of the word rhetoric.
