Henry V Reflection

What do you think are the strengths of your essay?

My essay includes support directly from the texts we read that give details on how Henry has developed and matured.

If you were going to write another draft, what changes would you make?

I would add in more in-depth development of my points to fully support my thesis. I believe I have some strong points with textual evidence to support them but I feel that I could’ve elaborated a bit more on some of them.

What are some cultural beliefs, practices, or concerns that you observed as you studied Henry V?

There is a notion of trying to break free from the legacy of past kings and set a new precedent for the future. This is a common theme and the main reason for Henry’s struggle for dominance of France.

Which of the above do you find most interesting?

This is interesting because it seems uncommon to break from the past especially from the legacy of past kings, but Henry, knowing how he got into power, seeks to change that and set a new legacy. Social contracts and loss of loyalty should that be broken.

List below any beliefs, practices, or concerns that seem similar or different to The Canterbury Tales.

There are similarities in the way they honor nobility and maintain status in their society. It is also apparent that personal honor is paramount in both societies. The way they make social contracts and bonds with one another are also similar in that their word is their bond and people during these eras all mean what they say and to break that trust would mean a lifetime of shame and mistrust.
